Thanks for visiting!
We are a local party committed to the Democratic principles that have weathered time from Jackson to Wilson to Roosevelt to Kennedy to Clinton to Obama. We are also committed to being a true party of ALL people, which is the root (Demos) of the name.
2012 Kickoff Letter from the Chair:
Dear Fellow Wilson County Democrat,
Greetings in the new year of 2012!
I first want to thank all of you for your hard work in the last two or more years to prepare our party for this year!
This year is going to be a hard, but great year for all of us. Wilson County was a battleground in 2008 and it will be a battleground again in 2012. We won Wilson County and North Carolina for President Barack Obama, Governor Perdue and so many other Democrats in 2008.
We can do it again. We will do it again!
Each one of you will play an integral part in that victory. There will be sacrifice of time, family and sleep for all of us again as we usher in the second inauguration of our president and another term for so many Democrats, including electing a Democratic governor who stands for all the people, not just a few.
I ask all of you to put any personal differences or disappointments of the past aside and work together as a Democratic family this year. Our co-operation and commitment will yield the greatest satisfaction of two decades or more.
I think that all of us must recommit to the Wilson County Democratic Party (and the overall Democratic principles) in order to defeat the efforts of the misguided Republican Party that controls our House of Representatives in DC and the entire General Assembly in Raleigh. We, as a group, are stronger than our individual talents and, yes, egos.
I call on all auxiliary groups to hold officer elections in April after our County Convention. The reason for this is not to place doubt on the leadership of each group to that day but, rather, to reinvigorate the spirit of Wilson County Democrats and those that we can reach this year.
Voter registration, fundraising, community outreach and voter transportation will be highly important as we lead up to the highly anticipated Democratic National Convention in Charlotte this September.
I call on all of you to rededicate yourselves to this mission and to bring more and more and more into the fold as we move forward.
I, along with all Wilson County Democratic Party leaders, will be available to all of you for any questions, concerns or ideas you may have. I hope you will not hesitate to share those with any of us.
So, please take a deep breath, close your eyes and envision the victory that we can achieve together!
In Peace and Solidarity Always,
Asa A. Gregory
Chair, Wilson County Democratic Party
100 DAYS OF GOP CONTROL Raleigh, NC—Today, Monday November 7, 2011, marks the 100th day of legislative session since Republicans gained a majority in the General Assembly in 2010. The Republicans have racked up 100 days of broken jobs promises, partisan reprisals and a job-killing budget that has turned back the clock on decades of progress in North Carolina. In just 100 days, North Carolina Republicans have:
- Laid off thousands of teachers and teaching assistants.
- Slashed funding for K-12 education.
- Restricted the health care decisions of women in North Carolina.
- Slashed funding for higher education.
- Refused to fund pre-K for North Carolina’s youngest learners.
- Used the redistricting process to re-segregate North Carolina.
- Blocked Democrats’ efforts to recruit new jobs to North Carolina.
The job-killing GOP budget has cost North Carolinians their jobs– in fact, it caused the largest layoff in North Carolina’s history. If it weren’t for layoffs caused by the GOP budget, North Carolina would have added jobs over the last two months – not lost them. North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman David Parker issued the following statement regarding the 100 days of GOP destruction:
“The consequences of the first 100 days of Republican control in the General Assembly are painfully clear. The Republicans have driven up unemployment by firing thousands of teachers and state workers. They have endangered the quality of our schools by slashing funding for education at every level. And Republicans have stood in the way of improving our economy by blocking Governor Perdue’s efforts to recruit new jobs and industry to North Carolina. Simply put: the Republican agenda is bad for our students, bad for our economy and bad for our State,” said Parker. “There are 365 days until next year’s general election—that is exactly how long the Republicans have until the people of North Carolina send them packing.” ###
